Bunning Supports Extension Of Benefits For Kentucky’s Unemployed
Legislation Includes Bunning Net Operating Losses Amendment
Washington, DC
Wednesday, November 4, 2009
U.S. Senator Jim Bunning today supported The Unemployment Compensation Act of 2009 to extend temporary unemployment benefits. The legislation was approved by a vote of 98 to 0.
"Kentucky has been hit hard by the current economic downturn," said Bunning. "This legislation will lend a helping hand to working families across the Commonwealth who are in search of a job. I am pleased the bill includes my job-creating amendment to allow businesses to carry back Net Operating Losses for five years and receive refunds of their own money today when they need it the most. I also strongly support the extension of the home buyer tax credit in the bill to help stabilize the housing market and the millions of jobs that depend on the housing industry."
The bill would provide up to fourteen additional weeks of federal extended unemployment benefits to workers in all states, with up to an additional six weeks of federal extended benefits for workers in Kentucky and other states with unemployment rates of 8.5 percent or higher.
